My passion for food

I am discovering with age how our lives, well, my own life, at least, is intertwined with food.

The graciousness exhibited by my proper, Southern mother, and the exuberance and enthusiasm over the creative process exhibited by my gregarious father - that combination has fueled my love for all things related to food, entertaining, and how it affects our souls.

My own style is one of understated elegance. I want everyone I serve to feel the passion and thought and effort given to each menu, each dish, even the setting. Having been raised in a home in which my parents effortlessly hosted lovely intimate dinner gatherings to the most grand parties, always having prepared every part of the food with careful thought given to the entire presentation, I cant help but want to share that with everyone I know on some level. It all came down to the food itself, and from that all else simply flowed as though part of some sort of natural process.

Having married a big Italian family, I was thrilled, if not just a bit intimidated over the thought of being immersed in their food and culture. Little did I know how little they knew. Some of the basics are passable, if not actually pretty good. Who knew that this WASPy girl with the Southern roots would be able
to make the tomato and pasta staples so good that even the most critical of her Sicilian in-laws would give rave reviews and ask for more? Not only that, I have also been able to encourage them to appreciate other types of food, including other types of Italian food. That's when it was affirmed for me - it's not the culture, or the ethnicity, so much as the authenticity of the love that makes its way into the process making it so enjoyable.

I love food from all over the world, and the diversity, as well as the overlapping similarities, from region to region is fascinating to me. I find I am able to delve into whatever regional craving erupts in me, and am able to put my distinctive spin on it so as to call it mine.

Follow me as I muse about moods and menus, silver patterns and seating, and even what may seem a pretentious obsession over etiquette that will certainly leave many readers nodding their heads or perhaps giggling over their own experiences. Whatever the case, this is one of my life's passions, and I hope to be able to share part of this heartfelt journey with you.
